Opportunity-to-Win Rate
Definition
The closing rate shows the proportion of defined sales opportunities that are won.
Won opportunities are divided by the defined comparison set, such as all opportunities closed in the period. Status and period must be consistently defined.
Simply explained
For example, three out of ten decided sales opportunities were won.
Why it matters in practice
The rate helps to monitor sales quality and changes in the process.
Example from business
Hypothetical example: 12 won out of 40 closed opportunities equals 30 percent.
Limits and pitfalls
- Open opportunities and different qualification distort comparisons. The rate alone does not explain causes.
Origin & history
The metric originates from sales management and CRM analysis.
Use in mid-sized companies
- SMEs can analyze it by offer type and target customer group.
Frequently asked questions
