    Definition

DALL·E 3 is an image generation system that creates new images from textual descriptions.

DALL·E 3 processes a text prompt and generates a new image from it. OpenAI describes the version as an advancement of DALL·E 2 with stronger alignment between description and image as well as improvements in image quality.

    Simply explained

Imagine an illustrator to whom you describe a scene. DALL·E 3 can generate an image for that. Unlike a human, however, the model does not reliably verify whether every depicted detail is true or legally unproblematic.

    Why it matters in practice

For drafts of campaigns or visual ideas, text-to-image models can provide variants. The results require independent image review and rights clearance.

    Example from business

Possible example: A company creates image drafts for an internal presentation from several text descriptions and has them professionally and stylistically reviewed before use.

    Limits and pitfalls

    • Image details may deviate from the prompt or suggest false facts. Trademark rights, personality rights, the origin of depicted motifs, and applicable terms of use must be checked separately.

    Origin & history

On October 3, 2023, OpenAI published a system card for DALL·E 3. It describes image generation from text as well as risk assessment and safety measures before deployment.

    Use in mid-sized companies

    • Possible uses include mood boards, initial motif ideas, and alternative image compositions. Invented details are especially critical for binding product images or documentary photos.

    Frequently asked questions

Does DALL·E 3 guarantee correct text and objects?

No. Every output must be checked according to the specific purpose.

Is a generated image automatically evidence of a real event?

No. It is a synthetic representation.
